1977 born Sudanese writer and journalist, Hammour Ziada has been living in Cairo since 2009, after his home in Khartoum was set to fire. The publication of a short story tackling child abuse in Sudan had previously exposed him to violent criticism from conservative and islamist currents in Sudan. Ziada currently writes for several newspapers, including Al Sabah.

Ziada’s previous novel “The longing of the Derwish” won the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature 2014.

It was shortlisted for the International Prize of Arabic Fiction (or Arab Booker) on the same year.
